ROMULUS - Plenty of action is on the agenda at the annual Romulus Holiday Tournament this weekend. Checkers Restaurant is located at 9247 Middle Belt Road and Playhouse Club at 13201 Middle Belt Road. On Tuesday, a development group will unveil a $200 million deal for a new football stadium and basketball facility in the city of Romuli. It would bring a football field, basketball court, running track, tennis courts and other amenities to the area.

Health officials are asking anyone who visited, worked at or went to Checkers in Romulus between June 17 and July 1 to contact the Wayne County Health Division at (734) 727-7078. Anyone who has visited either of these sites in this time frame, whether symptomatic or not, is encouraged to call the health department to report contact and get tested at home or quarantined.

Carter referred questions about the so-called land ownership issue to the broker Taylor, the Mich.-based Masco Corp., which will lease the space and provide medical care for activities at the center, and to its co-owner, the CEO of Detroit Technologies Inc., Thomas Nantais, who said his company is involved in the project. Detroit-based Henry Ford Health Systems is also listed as a partner and not involved, he said.

Vaughn declined to disclose bail or allow reporters access, citing a confidentiality agreement. He also said the property had been marketed to several prospective buyers, but no one had agreed. Emoni loves the game and has not been reached by the large crowds and media requests from fans, "he said.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, who was listed as greeting the media guests, said he was not involved in the event. Former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer described himself as a development partner and said he only had his wife and son, who both showed up for the news conference.

A source, who did not want to be named, said the inexperience of developers had slowed the project down. Vaughn said there was no doubt Bardwell had not been working on a development of this magnitude.
