It's not a done deal yet, but Costco could come to Mid-Michigan, and while there's no timetable for when the groundbreaking might begin, we could be closer to that. Costco Wholesale has submitted an application to the City of Midland to build a 157,000 square foot facility on Bay City Road. On Monday evening, May 11, Midlands City Council approved $437,789 for September 30, 2019. On Tuesday, Midland City Council approved a Chapter 380 agreement that provides Costco Warehouse with $1.5 million in expected improvements for a single-family home at 1702 Vine St. in Midman, MI, and $2 million to build a 1,500-space parking garage.
The 80-hectare site will be home to the Midland Commons, a mixed-use development with retail, offices and residential use, as well as a community centre.
The park is located in the city centre and houses the Romulus Historical Museum, which houses the restored Samuel Kingsley House. It houses a goods house restored in 1855 with artifacts, cabins and windmills, as well as a replica of the city's first post office.
